Maths Camp 2011
After the great success of the last three years, Maths Camp 2011 has been launched!
As with previous years, Maths Camp 2011 will run for a whole week - starting Monday 1st August.
Volunteers will be flying from Ireland and the UK on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th July. The majority are planning on staying between 10 and 14 days to explore the delights of Mombasa and the surrounding areas once their teaching commitments have been completed.
If you're looking for a trip with a difference or just want to give something back - then this is for you!
Our volunteers will be teaching Maths, Physics and Chemistry at Kongowea School in Mombasa - but don't worry we'll provide the teaching material!
A few attendance stats from previous years:
2008 - our very first Maths Camp attracted 80 students.
2009 - numbers increased to 120 students.
2010 - last year saw the expansion of Maths Camp to include Chemistry and Physics. Student numbers also swelled to over 300.
2011 - with your help this could be our best year yet!
"My experience of teaching during the SAAS Maths Camp was extremely rewarding and memorable. The students were so attentive and eager to learn and asked plenty of questions. The numbers in the class were increasing each day and everyone was welcoming and fitted the extra students into the room. I will never forget the importance of the red pen for correcting the work done during class! I learnt how important it is to give feedback and praise when teaching." - Maria
"Teaching during Maths Camp with SAAS was a fulfilling and eye-opening experience. The students were extremely hard-working and deeply appreciative of our team's efforts. The enthusiasm of the students made teaching a rewarding job. I look forward to this year's camp, where I'll meet a new gang who'll keep me on my toes with intelligent questions and an unquenchable desire to learn!" - Ursula
Unlike other worthy charities, we do not ask our volunteers to donate anything except their own time and to show committment to our cause by being respectful and responsible whilst in Kenya.
